KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27, 2026 — In a development that has stunned the Tamil film industry and the political landscape, Sangeetha Sornalingam has officially moved the Chengalpattu Family Court to end her 26-year marriage to superstar and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief, Vijay.
The filing, submitted earlier today, brings a definitive legal end to months of public speculation regarding the couple’s long-standing separation.
The Legal Charges: Infidelity and Cruelty
According to the petition filed under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, Sangeetha has cited serious allegations as the basis for the dissolution of the marriage.
Alleged Infidelity: Sangeetha claims she discovered Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with a prominent female actor in April 2021. The petition alleges that despite confrontations and initial promises to end the affair, the relationship continued.
Mental Cruelty: The filing details a period of "mental agony and humiliation," asserting that Vijay’s public outings and social media associations with the unnamed actress caused significant emotional distress.
Financial & Personal Restraints: Sangeetha further alleges that in recent years, she faced "financial restrictions\" and was increasingly excluded from Vijay’s social and professional circles.
