NewsBy Maahgeshan

GEORGE TOWN –4/4/26  In a significant move to support educational institutions, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced today that 522 schools across the state are now eligible for a symbolic land tax rate. Under this initiative, the annual land tax for these institutions is fixed at just RM50 per land title.

The announcement was made during an official inspection of the Northeast District Land Tax Payment Counter at Komtar. The Chief Minister emphasized that this policy is designed to alleviate the financial burden on educational establishments, ensuring that resources can be better directed toward student development and facility improvements.

\"A total of 522 schools in Penang are eligible for this symbolic fee of RM50 per land title,\" Chow stated. He further clarified that the rate applies to each individual lot or title held by the qualifying schools.

To facilitate a seamless payment process, the Chief Minister urged school administrations to verify their updated tax bills through the official Penang Land Portal. In line with the state’s digital transformation goals, schools are encouraged to utilize online payment methods. However, traditional payment options remain available at all land tax counters throughout the state.

This measure underscores the state government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for education by minimizing administrative overheads for both public and private learning institutions in Penang.
