BUKIT MERTAJAM – Two men who allegedly fled the country after a fatal dispute over a woman were apprehended at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) upon their return to Malaysia. The suspects, who had been at large since 2022, were brought to the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court today to face murder charges.

 

The defendants, identified as 39-year-old Li Wenxuan and 33-year-old Xiao Peisheng, are accused of murdering 35-year-old Yap Willy. The incident reportedly occurred on May 14, 2022, at approximately 7:45 p.m. in front of a convenience store in Kampung Baru.

 

According to police investigations, the motive behind the violent confrontation was a dispute involving a woman. Following the incident, the two suspects are believed to have fled to Cambodia to evade local authorities. Their period of flight ended yesterday when they were intercepted by police at the airport.

 

Both men were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Under this section, a conviction carries the death penalty or a term of imprisonment between 30 and 40 years, in addition to a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.

 

No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The defendants will remain in custody without bail as the legal proceedings continue. The court has set a future date for the mention of the case pending the submission of relevant forensic and investigation reports.
