Penang— 28March,2026In a historic shift that has reshaped the Himalayan nation\'s political landscape, Balendra Shah, the 35-year-old rapper and structural engineer popularly known as "Balen," was officially sworn in as the Prime Minister of Nepal on Friday, March 27, 2026.

The ceremony, held at the Shital Niwas (Presidential Palace), saw Shah take the oath of office before President Ram Chandra Paudel. Clad in his signature black Nepali cap and dark sunglasses, the former Mayor of Kathmandu transitioned from a grassroots agitator to the head of government, marking the end of a turbulent transition following the "Gen Z" uprisings of 2025.

A Mandate for Change

Shah’s rise to the premiership follows a landslide victory by his Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in the March 5 general elections. The party secured 182 seats in the 275-member parliament, a staggering majority that ousted the traditional political establishment.

Historic Victory: Shah defeated veteran political heavyweight and former PM K.P. Sharma Oli in the Jhapa-5 constituency.  Youth-Led Movement: The election was the first since the anti-corruption protests of September 2025, which were led largely by young Nepalis and resulted in the fall of the previous administration.

First Madhesi Premier: Shah makes history as the first Prime Minister from the Madhesi community of the southern plains to lead the country.

"Jay Mahakaali": A Message in Music

In a move characteristic of his unconventional style, Shah released a new rap song titled "Jay Mahakaali' just hours before his swearing-in. The track, which emphasizes national unity and the "strength of the people," has already garnered millions of views, serving as a digital "inaugural address" to his young constituency.

"Nepal is not scared this time... laughter and happiness will reach every household," Shah raps in the lyrics, reinforcing his image as a populist leader who speaks the language of the street.
