MIC Eyes Fourth Seat as Johor Polls Loom

Johor Bahru, (2 June 2026) - Johor MIC chairman K. Raven Kumar has signalled the party will contest four seats at the upcoming state election, up from the three it holds now.

Raven confirmed the strategy. “Yes, we will contest four seats,” he said, without naming the constituencies.Raven currently holds Tenggaroh. MIC’s other DUN seats are Kemelah, held by N. Saraswati, and Kahang, held by R. Vidyananthan. 


The push for a fourth seat is a bid to strengthen MIC’s voice in Barisan Nasional (BN) and the state government.Johor last voted on 12 March 2022. BN won 40 of 56 seats for a two-thirds majority. Pakatan Harapan and MUDA took 13 seats combined, while Perikatan Nasional won 3.


MIC contested four seats in 2022 and won three. It lost Bukit Batu to PKR’s Arthur Chiong Sen by just 137 votes. The Johor assembly was dissolved on 1 June 2026 by Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. 


Polling must be held by 31 July. - AlaiOli
